Junior outfielder Drew Hill and redshirt junior pitcher Will Lowery of the Wayne State University baseball team were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-Region team, according to a May 16 announcement.
This recognition highlights the achievements of two key players from Wayne State’s men’s baseball program, which competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division II level, according to the official website.
Hill, who was previously honored as the 2024 GLIAC Freshman Player of the Year and Second Team All-GLIAC performer, saw significant improvement in his third season. He hit .393 with 50 runs scored, 10 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs, and 53 runs batted in. Hill started all 53 games for Wayne State this season and registered multiple hits in a team-high 25 contests. His longest hitting streak reached ten games and he managed to reach base in as many as twenty-two consecutive games.
Lowery joined Wayne State after recording a program-record fifty-seven wins over two seasons at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. In his first year with Wayne State, he made fifteen appearances—thirteen as a starter—with an eight-and-two win-loss record. He posted a 3.82 earned run average across seventy-five innings pitched while striking out sixty batters. Notably, on March twentieth against Parkside, Lowery threw a nine-inning no-hitter—the team’s first since 2019—and was recognized as both GLIAC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week for that performance.
The Warriors play their home games in Detroit under their mascot ‘W the Warrior,’ according to information from the official website. The team previously captured the GLIAC Tournament title in 2010.
Looking ahead to next season, both Hill and Lowery are expected to return for their final collegiate campaigns.
