Wayne State University senior Emily Gordon has been recognized as the GLIAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. The mid-distance runner from Northville, Michigan, achieved two school records over the weekend.

Gordon secured eighth place in the 800m run at the GVSU Big Meet-Friday with a record time of 2:09.54, surpassing her previous record of 2:12.19 set two years ago.

The following day, she led off the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), setting another school record with a time of 11:44.27. This surpassed the prior mark of 11:46.88, which she also helped achieve two years ago.

Her performance in the 800m currently ranks fifth in the Midwest Region and 14th nationally among all NCAA Division 2 regions. The DMR team holds sixth place in the Midwest Region and is ranked 21st nationally.

Wayne State University will participate in the SVSU Tune-Up this Friday before competing in the GLIAC Championships on March 1-2 at SVSU.
