Wayne State University senior Shea Tripp has been named a national finalist for the John Wooden Citizenship Cup, as announced by Athletes for a Better World. Tripp, a women’s basketball player from Jackson, Michigan, is one of three female finalists. The other two are Clara Van Wieren from the University of Minnesota Duluth and Isabella Turner from Georgia Tech.

The Wooden Citizenship Cup recognizes athletes for their character and leadership both on and off the field. It is open to all college athletes across various sports and divisions. This year marks the third time both male and female college recipients have been recognized separately since its inception in 2005.

“John Wooden, who won ten national championships during the years 1964-1975 as basketball coach at UCLA is regarded as the greatest college coach of any sport who ever lived,” stated Athletes for a Better World. “He is universally regarded as one of the finest human beings to ever grace the world of sports.”

Past professional recipients include notable figures such as Doug Flutie, Nancy Lieberman, Joakim Noah, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Danny Wuerffel, Stewart Cink, Dick Vitale, Vince Dooley, Drew Brees, and Jack Nicklaus.

The awards ceremony will take place at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta on April 25, 2025.
