City of Grosse Pointe Farms issued the following announcement on Oct.1.
Use this as an opportunity to test the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If you need assistance testing your detectors, changing batteries or can't afford a smoke detector contact Fire Inspector Ray Krause at 313-885-2100.
In a typical home fire, you may have as little as one to two minutes to escape safely from the time the smoke alarm sounds.
