GROSSE POINTE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Wayne County Back To Work Small Business Grant!

Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 25.

Local small businesses will have access to $50 million to help with offsetting COVID-19 related expenses under a program proposed by Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans.

At least 5,000 county small businesses could be eligible for the grants. Small businesses can use the funds for re-opening activities including:

Payroll costs for permanent employees

Contract labor

Supplier payments

Rent, lease or mortgage payment

Rent, lease or purchase payment for business equipment

New or expanded technology applications

Utility payments for business properties

Cost of critical business operations

PPE and sanitation supplies,

COVID-19 expenses: Interest on other business debt obligations incurred after March 2020

Awards will be based on needs of the business and will not exceed $10,000. A business located in Wayne County that meets all the following requirements, will be eligible:

Business is identified as a small business, which is a business that employs less than 50 FTE employees.

Business has been in existence for over 1 year according to tax documentation.

Business is located in a brick and mortar commercial building and is unable to accommodate work from home.

Business is in good standing with the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

Business total revenue that DOES NOT exceed $1 million dollars.

Businesses who have not received other forms of grant funding will be prioritized for award. Businesses who have been previously awarded may apply, but will be considered only after all new applicants have been accounted for.

Since COVID-19 hit, Wayne County has consistently provided support to small businesses through its partnership with TCF Bank, Michigan Economic Development Corporation and DEGC. The TCF & Wayne County Small Business Relief Loan Fund has provided fast relief through low interest microloans to 225 businesses equaling $4,383,000 in support. The Michigan Small Business Relief funded grants up to $10,000 to 196 businesses.

The application period will be from June 29-July 10, 2020.
