CITY OF GROSSE POINTE FARMS: Code Enforcement Top 5

Brushcollect

City of Grosse Pointe Farms issued the following announcement on July 9.

In order to help maintain the beauty of the community, the City of Grosse Pointe Farms asks your assistance in maintaining residential properties and complying with City Ordinances and the Property Maintenance Code:

Below are the 5 most common resident complaints received by our Code Enforcement Officer:

1. Trash, yard waste or recycling placed at the curb prior to 5 p.m. the day before scheduled collection. All items for collection are required to be placed out no earlier than 5 p.m. the day prior to collection and no later than 7 a.m. the day of collection.

2. Yard waste placed at the curb haphazardly. Yard waste must be placed in yard waste bags or marked containers – with the exception of leaves during fall loose leave collection. Any branches not in containers must be neatly tied in bundles that are less than 4 feet in length and weigh less than 35 lbs.

3. Trash cans are stored in areas that can be seen from the public right-of-way. Trash and recycling containers must be stored in areas behind the front yard and screened from the public.

4. Lawn signs placed in the public right-of-way between the curb and sidewalk. Lawns signs, not exceeding 6 square feet and non-duplicative, are allowed on private property but must be 3 feet back from the sidewalk. Political signs must be removed within 5 days after the election for which they were erected and construction signs must be removed within 5 days after construction has been completed.

5. Obstructed sidewalks due to overgrown bushes or low hanging tree limbs. All vegetation should be cut back to insure an unobstructed walkway. All branches need to be a minimum of 8 feet above the sidewalk to ensure tractor cab clearance during snow removal.

Report suspected code violations to permits@grossepointefarms.org and type "Code Enforcement at INSERT ADDRESS" in the subject line. In the body of the email include a description of the code violation. If possible, attach a photo of the code violation to the email. Residents may also call the Public Service Department at (313) 885-4285 to report code violations.

Thanks you for all your efforts in maintaining the beauty of the community.
