Insurance relief for Michigan drivers has arrived in what Rep. Jason Wentworth (R-Farwell) described as an overdue success, according to the Michigan House Republicans website on June 30.
Wentworth, who serves as the chair of the House Select Committee on Reducing Car Insurance, supported a new law that ensures reduced insurance costs for drivers by providing additional options for personal injury protection coverage and balancing out costs for medical care for those involved in car accidents. The law would also challenge fake claims and boost consumer protections.
The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association also confirmed it lowered the yearly per-vehicle assessment cost from $220 to $100 starting on July 1.

“Michigan had the highest auto insurance rates in the nation. Across the state, we were hearing from constituents on the need for car insurance reform,” said Wentworth, according to the Michigan House Republicans. “I, along with my House colleagues, made it our mission to succeed where previous legislatures failed. The 100th Legislature came together in a bipartisan way, set its differences aside and delivered a meaningful solution to a system responsible for financial hardship within many Michigan households.”
