City of Dearborn issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.
With the Tuesday, Nov. 2 general election quickly approaching, the Dearborn City Clerk’s Office is offering as many opportunities as possible for individuals to register to vote and to cast their absent voter (AV) ballots.
The Clerk’s Office will be open on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. for election activities only. During this time, individuals will be able to register to vote in-person, turn in AV ballot applications, request an AV ballot and turn in AV ballots. The Clerk’s Office is inside the Dearborn Administrative Center (DAC), 16901 Michigan Ave.
In addition, the Clerk’s Office will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. for those who need to register to vote or drop off an AV ballot only. Individuals who have not yet registered to vote can register on Election Day and cast their vote at the same time at the Clerk’s Office.
Voters may also drop off their completed AV ballots in the Clerk’s ballot drop box, located in the parking lot across from the main entrance, until 8 p.m. on Nov. 2.
Those who want to vote AV and still have an AV ballot application in their possession must turn it in to the Clerk’s Office in-person by Monday, Nov. 1 by 4 p.m. to receive their AV ballot. Registered voters may also apply for an AV Ballot online by visiting www.michigan.gov/vote before 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.
However, it is recommended to make your AV ballot request in person at your local city or township clerk office to avoid possible postal delays.
To register to vote in-person, residents must bring valid photo ID and proof of residency to the Clerk’s Office.
What’s on the Ballot?
On the Nov. 2 ballot will be two candidates for mayor, and 14 candidates are running for City Council. Voters will select one candidate for mayor, and up to seven candidates for City Council. Residents will also select 9 candidates from a pool of 22 running for Dearborn Charter Commission.
Dearborn voters are also being asked to approve a supplemental, temporary tax to fund city operations, including critical services such as public safety.
Approval of the proposal would give the City the authority to levy up to 2.75 mills for three years beginning July 1, 2022.
Approval would cost the average Dearborn homeowner $167 per year.
According to language on the November ballot, without the supplemental millage, City programs and service levels will be diminished.
