City of Dearborn issued the following announcement on Jan. 15.
Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud was ceremonially sworn in as Dearborn’s seventh mayor as part of the 2022 City of Dearborn Inauguration, held virtually from the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Hammoud has served as Mayor of Dearborn in an official capacity since noon on January 1, 2022, the city charter-designated date of transfer.
Mayor Hammoud delivered an inaugural address (included below) painting an optimistic and inclusive vision for Dearborn’s next chapter.
City Clerk George T. Darany was sworn in for his second four-year term as City Clerk. The seven-member Dearborn City Council—including new Council President Michael T. Sareini—and the nine-member Charter Commission were also ceremonially sworn in. All oaths were administered by Wayne County Third Circuit Judge Helal Farhat.

The event was streamed virtually for the public to protect public health and safety amid heightened community spread of COVID-19. Family members in attendance were required to abide by evidence-based protocols, including proof of vaccination or negative tests, enhanced social distancing, and mandatory masking.
