On the third floor at the Henry Ford Centennial Library there is a small room with neutral walls and a tranquil picture. At first sight, it’s just another study room. But this room, which opened on May 26, 2022, is a reflection room. It serves as a place for quiet reflection in order to promote mental and physical health and well-being.
“It fills a need,” said Maryanne Bartles, Library Director. “Over the last few years, many people have been requesting this type of space to allow themselves a small break from screen time, studying and other daily pressures.”
With the recent renovation of the Henry Ford Centennial, Library Administration, working with the Library Commission, found a way to make this space a reality. Though the room may be small, what is important is that it is onsite and available to everyone.
“We are so pleased that we were able to carve out a space for our patrons to relax and reflect, meditate or pray,” Bartles added. “This is yet another effort toward meeting the requests and needs of our library patrons.”
The Reflection Room is an inclusive space that respects and honors all people and the library asks that everyone be courteous of the space and other people’s time. Additionally, there are specific guidelines in the usage of this room, which are posted on the door.
