Dearborn Police planning training drills at Fordson and Dearborn High

Dearborn Police will be performing training drills at Dearborn High on Friday, July 22 and at Fordson High School on Friday, July 29 for most of the day. Community members should not be alarmed if they see a police presence around the schools on those days.

Police will only be using a small section of the schools and plan to be there in the morning and early afternoon. The training exercises will be different at each school as police work to enhance a variety of skills and equipment. This particular training will only involve police personnel but the district and Dearborn Emergency Management personnel have worked together in the past on several joint training exercises.

Students and most staff will not be at the schools on those days. Summer school at the high school is not in session on Friday and the program ends on Thursday, July 28.

Several other times in recent years, the district has allowed Dearborn Police to conduct training exercises in different schools while students were out for the summer break.

“As always, we are glad to have a great working relationship with the Dearborn Police Department. Allowing them to perform training in our buildings when the students are not there helps the police be better prepared if an emergency should occur, and that preparation benefits the entire community,” said Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Glenn Maleyko.
