Thank you
I love seeing the people that pull to the side of the road, pull their phones out to record and/or get out to cheer for the Big Man. Some kids waited for days while others didn’t know we were coming and only open their doors to see what all the racket was.
During the Tuesday night route, I was riding in the last police car in the parade and noticed a young family with three kids run out in their pajamas and no shoes! They had just missed Santa and the kids were devastated. I stopped my patrol car and got out. I said I was going to meet up with Santa soon and asked if there was a message I could pass on for them. The oldest of the three children, who was no more than five nervously said…”tell Santa that we’ve all been good boys and girls!” Even with all the excitement, she knew to think about her siblings and all the other children. She wanted to make sure they would all have a great Christmas morning. I promised I would tell him the message, got back in my car and worked hard to hold back a tear or two.
The Santa parade is such an exciting time for us. Most times, we’re called to emergency situations when people are having the worst days of their lives. By working with Santa, we get to bring joy to you but it is equally, if not more joy that you all bring to us.
Thank you for allowing us the honor to spread holiday cheer throughout the Township.
PS: I kept my promise and told Santa the special message. Merry Christmas
