Wayne State’s Josh DiCarlo wins Ontario Men’s Match Play Championship

Josh DiCarlo, a redshirt senior from Amherstburg, Ontario, and a member of the Wayne State University men's golf program, secured Medalist Honors at the 2024 Ontario Men's Match Play Championship. The event took place on Thursday, June 13 at Tarandowah Golfers Club in Springfield, Ontario.

This marked DiCarlo's fifth participation in the championship and his first appearance in the finals. In his previous four attempts, he had not advanced past the quarterfinals.

In the Round of 64 held on Monday, June 10, DiCarlo (#4 seed) defeated Matthew Ion Young (#61 seed) from Hamilton Golf & Country Club with a score of 3&2. The following day in the Round of 32, he triumphed over Justin Repovs (#36 seed) from Meadowbrook Golf Club by the same margin.

Later that day in the Round of 16, DiCarlo overcame Hayden Atkinson (#52 seed) from Sunningdale Golf & Country Club with a decisive 5&4 victory. On Wednesday, June 12, during the quarterfinals, he won against Dylan MacDonald (#12 seed) from Granite Golf Club by two holes up.

In the semifinals held later that day, DiCarlo bested Michael Weber (#8 seed) from Burlington Golf & Country Club with another two-hole lead. Finally, in the championship match on Thursday, June 13, DiCarlo clinched victory over Zachary Smith (#3 seed) from Brampton Golf Club Ltd with a score of 4&3.
