CJ Maury, senior shortstop on the Wayne State University baseball team, was one of nine players named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Midwest Region All-Defensive Team on Thursday, June 20. Aside from Maury, only seven student-athletes were selected at Maury's position to represent the eight best defensive shortstops in the country.
This season, the Brampton, Ontario native racked up 132 defensive assists, good for second in the GLIAC and 10th in program history. That number gave Maury 352 for his career, enough for ninth in the school's record book. The six-foot right-hander also notched 153 assists as a junior in 2023, which is runner-up to the most by a Warrior in a single campaign. Back to 2024, Maury's fielding percentage was .955 with 57 putouts, 132 assists and nine errors on 198 chances.

This season marks just the second in which the ABCA selected each region's All-Defensive Team; thus Maury is the first Warrior to receive such recognition. Players selected to the ABCA Region All-Defensive teams were eligible for ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove honors—a distinction that's been in place since 2007. Former WSU catching great Michael Wiseman garnered ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove accolades in 2011 as the best defensive catcher in the country.
