Wayne State University head women's tennis coach Yahsha Moore has announced the addition of Shantala Uzcategui for the 2024-25 season.

"I'm really excited to be adding Shanty to our team," commented Moore. "She will fit right in with our culture, and will help add even more depth to our team."

Shantala Uzcategui, a redshirt junior from Hoyo de La Puerta, Venezuela, previously attended Walsh University. In the 2022-23 season, Uzcategui helped Walsh University achieve an 11-11 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the GMAC. She compiled a 13-9 singles record primarily playing at No. 2 singles (6-3) or No. 3 singles (5-4). Additionally, she teamed with Yasmina Mayer for a 14-8 doubles mark at the second flight and was selected to the All-GMAC Second Team.

During the 2021-22 season, Uzcategui earned First Team All-GMAC honors after helping Walsh Cavaliers to a 16-7 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the GMAC. She compiled a 15-6 singles record at the second flight and had a doubles mark of 17-4 combined at both No. 2 and No. 3 flights.

A graduate of Unidad Educativa Colegio Madre Matilde in Venezuela, Uzcategui attended a high-performance tennis academy where she was coached by Roman Repartee. She received High School Excellent Academic Development Recognition from 2014 through 2019.
