Fred Delcomyn, a six-time WSU letterwinner in cross country and indoor/outdoor track (1959-60-61), also received freshman numerals in track and cross country in 1958.
Delcomyn served as the team captain of the cross country squad in both 1960 and 1961, contributing to the Tartars' three consecutive President Athletic Conference (PAC) titles from 1959 to 1961. He placed second at the 1959 conference championships, won the 1960 championship by 22 seconds, and was WSU's top runner in 1961, finishing fourth overall.
At the 1959 PAC track championship, Delcomyn won the two-mile race with a PAC record time of 10:16.4 and placed second in the mile run. The following year, he finished third in the one-mile event and fourth in the two-mile event at the PAC Championship.
As a senior and team captain, Delcomyn won the one-mile run at the 1961 PAC Championship meet and placed fifth in the two-mile run as WSU finished second in team competition for a second straight season.
All four of his cross country seasons were under legendary WSU Hall of Fame coach Frank McBride. His final three track years were also under McBride’s guidance. In his first track season, Delcomyn competed for David L. Holmes, founder of WSU Athletics.
Delcomyn graduated in 1962 with a degree in Biological Sciences and was selected as a member of the PAC's 60th Anniversary Men's Cross Country Team.
