Wayne State volleyball narrowly defeated by Grand Valley after leading two sets

Wayne State University's volleyball team faced a tough loss against No. 16 Grand Valley State on Thursday night at the Matthaei Center. Despite leading two sets to none and being ahead in the third set, Wayne State was unable to maintain their advantage, eventually falling to the Lakers in five sets.

Head coach Tim Koth commented on the match, stating, "What an entertaining match this evening! Although we are very disappointed with the outcome, our team continues to improve, and I am proud of our effort."

The Warriors have now lost three consecutive matches against Grand Valley State for the first time since 2016. During the match, Wayne State hit .267 with 69 kills and 25 errors from 165 total attacks. The Lakers managed a .205 hitting percentage with 59 kills and 26 errors from 161 attempts.

Grand Valley State dropped two sets for only the third time in their last thirteen matches but managed to secure a win. Wayne State's best individual set performance came in the second set with a .345 hitting percentage.

Kayla Giroux delivered an impressive performance with a personal best of 23 kills and just five errors on 43 attempts, achieving a .419 hitting percentage. She was one of four Warriors who recorded double-digit kills along with Molly Miller (17), Leigha Baldwin (11), and Katie Smith (11).

On defense, Ella Uganski tied her career high with six total blocks while Kayla Dulgar contributed a personal best of 57 assists along with 21 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Wayne State will next face Roosevelt at home on Friday at Matthaei Center, aiming to bounce back from this defeat.
