Wayne State volleyball secures sweep victory over Roosevelt

The Wayne State University volleyball team achieved a victory on Friday night, defeating Roosevelt in a three-set match at the Matthaei Center. This win came after a challenging loss the previous day. The Warriors, now holding a 6-7 overall record and 4-2 in the GLIAC, recorded their second-best hitting percentage of the season at .330.

"It was a sluggish start for the Warriors tonight, but we progressed as the match went on," commented head coach Tim Koth. He highlighted strong performances from Kayla Giroux and Katie Smith, with notable contributions from Jenna Kray and Keilyn Carpenter off the bench.

Wayne State dominated Roosevelt with set scores of -25, -16, and -15. They achieved 44 kills against 12 errors on 97 attacks, while Roosevelt managed 35 kills but committed 24 errors on 104 swings. Kayla Giroux shone brightly with an impressive performance over two matches, achieving a hitting percentage of .420 (36-7-69). On Friday alone, she made 13 kills with only two errors out of 26 attempts.

Molly Miller also contributed significantly by reaching double figures in kills with twelve hits despite six errors on twenty-four attempts (.250). Katie Smith added seven kills to her name with just two errors from seventeen attacks (.294).

Several players excelled in different aspects: four registered service aces; Kayla Dulgar provided thirty-one assists; Leigha Baldwin accounted for three total blocks; Kendyl Andrews led in digs with thirteen.

Looking ahead, Wayne State will travel to face Purdue Northwest next Friday at Hammond, Indiana. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
