Wayne State University's volleyball team is set to face No. 16 Ferris State on Wednesday night and will host Purdue Northwest on Friday evening. The Warriors are currently enjoying a four-match winning streak, with an overall record of 9-13 and a GLIAC record of 4-7.
Coach Koth expressed optimism about the upcoming match against Ferris State: "We have won a few matches in a row and this opportunity to play in Big Rapids will give us a chance to see just how much we have improved. We're looking forward to the opportunity."
Freshman Kayla Dulgar has been named GLIAC Setter of the Week for two consecutive weeks. Her recent performance included 84 assists over two matches, contributing significantly to Wayne State's victories against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. This season, she ranks first in the league for assists per set with an average of 9.89.
In their last match on October 21 against Michigan Tech, Wayne State secured a victory after winning the first two sets, losing the next two, and finishing strong in the fifth set with a .471 hitting percentage.
Earlier this season, Wayne State faced Ferris State on September 14 and suffered a close defeat (2-3). During that match, Ferris State took an early lead but Wayne State fought back before eventually succumbing in the final set.
Similarly, Wayne State faced Purdue Northwest on September 16 but lost (1-3) despite taking an early lead in the first set and performing well offensively in the second set.
The upcoming matches provide another opportunity for Wayne State to continue their winning momentum as they approach these familiar opponents once more.
