Wayne State volleyball players earn GLIAC academic honors

Eleven members of the 2023 Wayne State University volleyball team have been honored with GLIAC All-Academic accolades. Over the past eight years, a total of 97 Warrior volleyball student-athletes have received this recognition.

The criteria for the award require that student-athletes must be active members on the roster at the end of the season and not be freshmen or first-year transfer students.

Eight student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Excellence Team for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. The honorees include graduate student Nicole Golder from New Baltimore, Michigan; seniors Jenna Kray from Westerville, Ohio, and Alexa Withun from Troy, Michigan; juniors Keilyn Carpenter from Vermontville, Michigan, and Ella Uganski from Jenison, Michigan; redshirt sophomores Shay Bordine from Davisburg, Michigan, and Meah Potter from Holt, Michigan; along with sophomore Kayla Giroux from Flat Rock, Michigan.

Jenna Kray was recognized for the third consecutive year. "Bordine (Management - 3.87), Carpenter (Psychology - 3.95), Potter (Psychology - 3.72), Uganski (Exercise and Sport Science - 3.92) and Withun (Actuarial Mathematics - 3.83) notched their second consecutive honor." Giroux received her first accolade in her initial eligible season with a GPA of 3.98 in Accounting. Golder earned her first Excellence Team selection after three years on the All-Academic squad with a master's GPA of 3.75 in Public Health.

Wayne State University's three representatives on the All-Academic Team for having a cumulative GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 are redshirt senior Chloe Clark from Sterling Heights, Michigan; redshirt sophomore Leigha Baldwin from Perrysburg, Ohio; and sophomore Kendyl Andrews from Flushing, Michigan.

Clark collected her fourth GLIAC academic accolade with a GPA of 3.46 in Public Health while Andrews and Baldwin were both first-time eligible honorees with GPAs of 3.38 in Exercise & Sport Science and 3.19 in Marketing respectively.
