The Wayne State University women's swimming team commenced its 2024-25 home season with a victory over Hillsdale, securing a 117-83 win on Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei Natatorium. The Warriors claimed first place in seven out of the eleven races against Hillsdale.
"Our Warrior women did a great job competing today against the Hillsdale Chargers," said head coach Sean Peters. "The Warriors really came out strong in the first part of the meet, and despite having some challenges thrown our way, we finished on a very good note. I was really proud, and we had first-place finishes from Alli Vassilakos, Barbara Munoz, Sabine Branford, Elly Belmore and Delaney Parker, who touched first in the 200 breast."
In specific events, Wayne State's relay team won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.15. The team consisted of Elly Belmore from St. Clair Shores, Michigan; Delaney Parker from Dexter, Michigan; Evie Dice from Waterford, Michigan; and Sabine Branford from Plymouth, Michigan.
Individual victories included Alli Vassilakos winning both the 1000 free with a time of 10:33.44 and the 500 free clocking in at 5:12.75. Barbara Munoz triumphed in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.09 while Sabine Branford took first place in the 50 free at 25.49 seconds. Elly Belmore secured wins in both the 200 IM at 2:12.52 and the 200 back at 2:13.00.
Wayne State is set to continue their season with another home meet against Davenport on Friday, October 18th at 5 p.m.
