The Wayne State University women's tennis team participated in the 2024 ITA Cup held at Berry College, Rome, Georgia. Four student-athletes from Wayne State represented the team: Malak Arafat from Alexandria, Egypt; Martyna Szpakowska from Gdansk, Poland; Anais Ruyssen from Nantes, France; and Dea Gorgidze from Tbilisi, Georgia.
In their matches, Arafat and Szpakowska secured a victory against Mariana Ramirez and Nikoline Gullacksen of Columbus State with scores of 6-3 and 7(7)-6(3). Meanwhile, Ruyssen and Gorgidze faced a defeat by Renske Ubachs and Daniela Tijaro from Washburn with scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
Both pairs will continue their participation on Friday, October 11. Ruyssen and Gorgidze will compete in a consolation quarterfinal match against Karen Kondo and Selina Wu of Saint Marys. Arafat and Szpakowska are scheduled to play in the doubles draw quarterfinals.
