Wayne State University's men's basketball team has strengthened its lineup with the addition of KJ Oduor, a transfer from Central Michigan. The announcement was made by head coach Bryan Smothers, who is in his third year leading the program.

"I am really happy to add KJ to our program and family here at WSU," said Smothers. "He adds NCAA playing experience, and some physicality that makes us better. KJ is a really good defender and also understands the value of doing the little things it takes to be successful."

Oduor, originally from Kisumu, Kenya, brings a wealth of experience to Wayne State. Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 213 pounds, he played for Central Michigan during the 2023-24 season. He appeared in 23 games, starting three times, and averaged 1.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while blocking 12 shots.

His performance included a standout game against Bowling Green on February 3rd, where he recorded career highs with 14 rebounds and four blocked shots in 38 minutes on the court.

Before joining Central Michigan, Oduor played for the College of Southern Idaho during the 2022-23 season. There he participated in 23 games with one start, averaging 2.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 59.1 percent from the floor.

Oduor began his college basketball journey at Western Carolina but redshirted as a true freshman during the 2021-22 season.

A graduate of Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio, Oduor was team captain during his senior year in high school and averaged 13.3 points per game. In addition to basketball, he competed in cross country and was named valedictorian of his class.

KJ Oduor's full name is Kjellan O. Oduor, born on November 24th in Kisumu, Kenya. He plans to major in Pre-Med/Chemistry at Wayne State University.
