Wayne State women shine on third night of GLIAC Championships

The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team secured victories in three events on the third day of the 2024 GLIAC Championships, held in Holland, Michigan. The team achieved first place finishes in the 500 free, 200 fly, and 800 free relay. These results kept them in second place among five competing teams with one day left in the competition.

In the team standings after day three, Grand Valley State leads with a score of 706.5 points. Wayne State follows with 532 points, ahead of Northern Michigan's 513.5 points. Davenport holds fourth place with 344.5 points, while Saginaw Valley State stands at fifth with 258.5 points.

During the championship final for the 500 free event, Jordan Fox clinched first place with a time of 4:50.53, setting an NCAA B Cut and GLIAC Meet Record. Alli Vassilakos came second with a time of 4:52.99 (NCAA B Cut), followed by Megan Sieloff who placed fifth at 4:58.44 (NCAA B Cut). In the consolation final, Diana Muccioli finished thirteenth with a time of 5:04.60 (NCAA B Cut).

Evie Dice secured seventh place in the championship final for the 100 backstroke event clocking in at 57.25 seconds.

Hasten Horling also finished seventh during the championship final for the 100 breaststroke event posting a time of 1:05.13.

In another successful outcome for Wayne State, Barbara Munoz took first place in the championship final for the 200 fly event finishing at an impressive time of 2:01.29 (NCAA B Cut). Elly Belmore and Danika Fessenden completed this event placing sixth and eighth respectively.

Wayne State excelled further as they claimed victory in the prestigious championship relay race—their quartet comprising Jordan Fox, Barbara Munoz, Megan Sieloff along with Alli Vassilakos—finished first achieving both an NCAA B Cut alongside setting another GLIAC Meet Record timing at exactly seven minutes twenty-three point two zero seconds during their compelling win over competitors within eight hundred meters freestyle relay challenge category too!
