The Wayne State University women's swimming and diving team maintained its position in second place at the 2024 GLIAC Championships, held in Holland, Michigan. The team's performance was highlighted by individual titles from Jordan Fox in the 200 free and Mikaela Senkus in the 3-meter dive. The Warriors aim to continue their strong showing during Sunday's preliminaries.
"We are at the halfway point and seeing a lot of amazing and heroic performances by so many Warriors," said head coach Sean Peters. "We saw Alli Vassilakos set a meet record in the 1000 free, we saw Clayton Kinnard really come on strong in his 200 IM, and we got to see Jordan Fox win the 200 free against an impressive field. With diving, Mikaela Senkus turned in her most impressive performance this year with a victory in three meter diving. It has been a terrific meet for the Warriors and we're looking forward to the second half."
As of day two, Grand Valley State leads with 499 points, followed by Wayne State with 369 points. Northern Michigan is third with 323.5 points, Davenport is fourth with 222.5 points, and Saginaw Valley State holds fifth place with 160 points.
In other events, Danika Fessenden placed 16th in the consolation final of the 100 Fly with a time of 58.36 seconds after finishing 14th in prelims at 58.07 seconds.
Elly Belmore secured fifth place in the championship final of the 400 IM with an NCAA B Cut time of 4:25.51 after being sixth in prelims at 4:30.47.
In addition to her title win, Jordan Fox's performance earned her an NCAA B Cut time of 1:48.33 in the championship final of the 200 Free.
Mikaela Senkus won first place in three-meter diving with a score of 451.25 after being second in prelims at 433.10.
The team also achieved third place in the women's relay event for the day.
