Wayne State track team sets records at Cal State LA Twilight Open

Eight athletes from Wayne State University's women's outdoor track and field team participated in the Cal State LA Twilight Open on Thursday evening. The event saw six all-time top-10 performances in WSU history, with notable contributions from senior Mikaela Owen and redshirt freshman Keneisha Thomas.

Owen achieved top-10 marks in both the 100m dash and 200m dash. In the 100m dash, she placed 13th with a time of 12.36 seconds, ranking ninth all-time at WSU. She also finished seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 25.14 seconds, placing her seventh all-time at WSU.

Thomas set two top-10 marks as well, excelling in hurdles events. She secured fifth place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.91 seconds, which is fourth all-time at WSU. Additionally, she finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.06, also ranking fourth all-time at WSU.

Freshman Sasha-Gay Thompson made significant strides by finishing fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.04 seconds, marking her sixth all-time at WSU. She also placed 11th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.32 seconds.

Sophomore Elyse Miller added to the team's achievements by securing third place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.98, which is sixth all-time at WSU.

Other participants included junior Renae Kutcha who finished sixth in the 400m dash; sophomore Annabelle Smith who took sixth place in long jump; and redshirt senior Mikayla Williams who achieved second place in triple jump.

The team's West Coast trip continues as Reagan Justice competes in the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational's 10K on Friday morning. Five other athletes will participate in events at Long Beach State Beach Invite while Emily Gordon will run both the 800m and 1500m races at APBCI alongside Thailyia Christensen and Katherine Ray for their respective events.

In addition to these activities, Ransom Allen and Tyler Buchanan from Wayne State's men's cross country squad are scheduled to compete in today's APBCI's men's races.
