Wayne State University's softball team faced a challenging day at Purdue Northwest, suffering two losses in a doubleheader. The Warriors were limited to just two hits in each game, falling 10-2 in the first match and 3-0 in the second.
In the opening game, Purdue Northwest's Jessica DeBoer hit a solo home run in the first inning. Wayne State responded with two runs in the second inning thanks to Kiley Lewandowski's leadoff double and Logan Forman reaching base on an error. However, Purdue Northwest tied it up with Myah Stuckey's RBI double and then took control with Selena Michko's three-run homer. Aubrey Shroyer added two more runs with a single, and Michko hit another home run later. The game concluded with a sacrifice fly by Jessica DeBoer.
Wayne State's Sydney Long allowed five earned runs over seven hits, while Sasha Buckberger also gave up five earned runs. Gabby Paliska pitched for Purdue Northwest, conceding only one earned run on three hits.
Lewandowski led Wayne State with two hits and a run scored. For Purdue Northwest, Michko excelled with three hits and three RBIs.
In the second game, Michko continued her strong performance by hitting her third home run of the day, driving in all three of Purdue Northwest’s runs. Wayne State managed to get runners on base but couldn't advance them past second.
Alexis Bonk pitched for Wayne State, allowing three earned runs on two hits across six innings. Maddison Roop secured the win for Purdue Northwest by striking out six batters over seven innings without allowing any runs.
Lewandowski and Becky Hodder both reached base twice for Wayne State through singles and walks. Michko again led Purdue Northwest offensively.
Wayne State aims to end its four-game losing streak when they face Ohio Dominican at Gary L. Bryce Field on Wednesday.
