The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field team is set to compete at the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Invitational. The event will take place at the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Complex, featuring athletes from 19 schools. Entry fees are $10 for adults and $7 for children and seniors.
The competition will start with the women's hammer event at 11 a.m., where Kaleigh Flowers, a graduate student, and Makayla Stewart, a freshman, will represent Wayne State. Both athletes will also participate in the discus throw.
Running events kick off at noon with two WSU groups competing in the 4x100m relay. Group A includes senior Mikaela Owen, freshman Rachel Overgaard, sophomore Hanne Bastiaansen, and sophomore Avery Wilson. Group B consists of freshman Danielle Modock, freshman Tianna Bennett, sophomore Emmanuela Johnson, and sophomore Iyana Coates.
In the 800m run, junior Emily Gordon, graduate student Emily Esker, junior Mattie Drennan, and junior Natalie Davies will compete for WSU. Freshman Anna Gdowski is participating unattached.
Three student-athletes from WSU—redshirt sophomore Richelle Cotter, junior Makenzie Wellner, and redshirt freshman Keneisha Thomas—will run in the 100m hurdles preliminaries.
The 100m dash prelims feature all four members of Group B from the 4x100m relay: Bennett, Coates, Johnson, and Modock.
Junior Peyton Hansen and redshirt senior Mikayla Williams will represent WSU in the javelin throw. Four jumpers—sophomore Annabelle Smith, freshman Nicole Warren, redshirt senior Morgan Witzgall—and Williams will compete in the long jump. Warren and Witzgall are also entered in the triple jump.
Wellner is set to participate in the 400m hurdles. Seven Warriors are listed for the 200m dash: sophomore Elyse Miller; Johnson; Bennett; junior Renae Kutcha; Modock; Coates; and Cotter.
In the 1,500m race are five mid-distance runners: sophomore Rachel Felstow; Esker; Drennan; Davies; and freshman Meagan Verellen.
Eight distance runners are entered into the 5K event: redshirt senior Thailyia Christensen; junior Reagan Justice; redshirt senior Katherine Ray; sophomore Aubrey Migoski; junior Robin Bresolin; junior Annalee Misch; sophomore Sarah Greb; and junior Layla Martini.
Field events include shot put with Flowers and Stewart completing their trifecta participation. Freshmen Nevaeh Branson and Gracie Klink will be competing in high jump as well.
The final running event scheduled is the 4x400m relay.
Next on their schedule after this meet is a series of competitions in California including races at Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, Long Beach State Beach Invite as well as Cal State LA Twilight Open.
