Twelve athletes from Wayne State University's women's outdoor track and field team took part in the first day of the 2024 Oakland University Elaine Leigh Invitational on Friday in Rochester, Michigan.
In the 1500m run, Emily Esker, a graduate student from Livonia, Michigan, finished 10th with a time of 5:01.44. Junior Layla Martini from Casnovia, Michigan, placed 22nd at 5:18.99, while freshman Meagan Verellen from Shelby Township, Michigan, came in 25th with a time of 5:33.19.
The 5000m run saw sophomore Aubrey Migoski from Wyandotte, Michigan finish in 17th place with a time of 18:50.23. Junior Mattie Drennan from Clarkston, Michigan secured the 20th spot at 18:56.86 and junior Natalie Davies from Chelsea, Michigan finished in 31st place with a time of 20:32.91.
Junior Annalee Misch from Macomb, Michigan achieved third place in the 10,000m run with a time of 41:49.45.
In field events, freshman Nicole Warren from Saline, Michigan took fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 5.05 meters (16-07.00). Redshirt senior Morgan Witzgall from Auburn, Michigan was ninth with a jump measuring 4.77 meters (15-07.75).
Graduate student Kaleigh Flowers from Grand Rapids, Michigan finished sixth in the hammer throw event with a mark of 39.82 meters (130-07), while freshman Makayla Stewart from Novi, Michigan was thirteenth at 30.73 meters (100-10).
Junior Peyton Hansen from Freeland, Michigan claimed third place in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.19 meters (99-00).
The Warriors will continue their participation on Saturday at OU before heading to their final regular-season meets scheduled for April 26-27 at both the Concordia Alumni Legacy Meet and GVSU Extra Weekend Meet on April 27.
