Seventeen athletes from Wayne State University's women's outdoor track and field team competed at the 2024 Oakland University Elaine Leigh Invitational on Saturday. A notable performance came from junior Robin Bresolin, who set a personal record by winning the steeplechase with a time that ranks eighth in the program's history.
In the 100m dash, sophomore Emmanuela Johnson finished third with a time of 12.75 seconds, following her fifth-place finish in preliminaries. Freshman Danielle Modock secured sixth place, while sophomore Iyana Coates took seventh.
The 200m dash saw redshirt sophomore Richelle Cotter finishing ninth, closely followed by Johnson and Coates in tenth and eleventh places respectively. Modock rounded out the event in twelfth place.
Freshman Tianna Bennett completed the 400m dash in tenth place with a time of 1:04.19. In the 800m run, sophomore Rachel Felstow placed tenth and graduate student Emily Esker fifteenth.
Junior Makenzie Wellner participated in both hurdles events, placing ninth in the 100m hurdles and second in the 400m hurdles.
Bresolin led Wayne State's efforts in the steeplechase, claiming first place with a noteworthy performance. Sophomore Sarah Greb finished sixth.
In relay events, Modock, Johnson, Bennett, and Coates teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100m relay.
Freshmen Nevaeh Branson and Gracie Klink tied for second place in high jump. Redshirt senior Morgan Witzgall achieved fourth place in triple jump with freshman Nicole Warren coming sixth.
Graduate student Kaleigh Flowers performed well in discus throw securing fifth position while also placing seventh in shot put alongside freshman Makayla Stewart who placed eighth and tenth respectively.
Looking ahead to their final regular-season meets next weekend at Concordia Alumni Legacy Meet on April 26-27 and GVSU Extra Weekend Meet on April 27th is what awaits this dedicated group of athletes as they continue to prepare for future competitions.
