The Wayne State University women's tennis team, ranked 23rd nationally, achieved a decisive victory against Grand Valley State on Friday. The match took place at the Duchene Athletic Facility in Detroit, marking Wayne State's fifth consecutive win and maintaining their unbeaten record in the conference.

Wayne State's current standing is 13-5 overall and 4-0 in the GLIAC, which places them at the top of the league standings. Ferris State, whom they will face next, follows closely with a 3-0 record. This recent win also represents Wayne State's eighth home victory of the season.

The match against Grand Valley was a rematch of last year's GLIAC Tournament final and NCAA Midwest Regional finals, both previously won by Wayne State.

In doubles play, Wayne State secured the point with two victories. Malak Arafat and Martyna Szpakowska defeated Vasileia Griva and Rachel Sam 6-3 at No. 2 doubles. Meanwhile, Dea Gorgidze and Shanice Weekes triumphed over Anna Soteras and Vale Mozas with a score of 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles team from Wayne State faced a tough match but ultimately fell to Taylor Barrett and Neus Ramos in a tiebreaker.

In singles competition, Wayne State completed a sweep by winning all six matches. Arafat quickly dispatched Barrett at No. 2 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-3. Szpakowska added another point for WSU with her victory over Sam at No. 4 singles.

Anais Ruyssen secured the clinching point for Wayne State after overcoming an initial set loss to Griva to win in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-2). Marta Komar also won her match against Soteras in three sets at No. 3 singles.

Gorgidze claimed victory against Ramos in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) at No. 5 singles. The final match saw Weekes edge out Mozas after a competitive super tiebreaker at No. 6 singles.

Wayne State will next face Ferris State on Sunday in Detroit for what could determine the GLIAC Regular Season Championship title as well as serve as their final regular-season home game this year.
