Wayne State University's women's tennis team has secured a significant victory in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) by defeating Ferris State University. The match, held at the newly renovated WSU Tennis Courts, ended with Wayne State winning 6-1. This win places Wayne State in a strong position to clinch the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship with two matches remaining.

The match against Ferris State marked the first outdoor game of the season for Wayne State, which had previously played indoors at the Duchene Athletic Facility. With this victory, Wayne State now leads the league standings with a 5-0 record.

In doubles play, Wayne State achieved a clean sweep. Anais Ruyssen and Marta Komar faced off against Morgan Waller and Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer in a highly anticipated match between nationally ranked teams. Ruyssen and Komar emerged victorious with a 6-4 score.

Malak Arafat and Martyna Szpakowska continued their winning streak by defeating Sophie Daavettila and Parker Nolan 6-3. Meanwhile, Shanice Weekes and Dea Gorgidze also secured a win against Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer and Katherine Earnest with another 6-4 score.

In singles matches, Wayne State won five out of six contests. Anais Ruyssen triumphed over Morgan Waller after an intense three-set battle, concluding with a 10-point super tiebreaker that ended 10-6 in her favor.

Malak Arafat swiftly defeated Sophie Daavettila at the No. 2 spot with scores of 6-2, 6-1. Martyna Szpakowska also celebrated her sixth consecutive singles victory by overcoming Maria Hernandez Ferrer at the fourth flight.

Dea Gorgidze won her match against Parker Nolan while Shanice Weekes finished strongly against Aimee Reynoso Cupido in straight sets.

Ferris State's only point was scored by Ana Hernandez Ferrer who edged out Marta Komar after losing the first set but rallying to win the next two sets.

Looking ahead, Wayne State aims to further solidify its position as they face Purdue Northwest on April 19th at Match Point Tennis Facility in Griffith, Indiana.
