Wayne State University's women's tennis team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Round of 16 after defeating Tiffin University 4-1 in the Midwest Regional final. The match, initially scheduled outdoors, was moved indoors due to weather conditions. This victory marks Wayne State's second consecutive year reaching this stage of the tournament.
In doubles play, Wayne State secured the first point by winning both completed matches. Anais Ruyssen and Marta Komar triumphed over their opponents with a 6-3 score, while Dea Gorgidze and Justine Beaulieu won their match 6-4. The third doubles match remained unfinished at a tied score.
In singles competition, Wayne State won three out of four completed matches. After Tiffin evened the score with Maeva Maxch's win over Ruyssen, Komar regained the lead for Wayne State with her victory against Emily Barrett. Malak Arafat continued her winning streak by defeating Anaelle Lepinay, and Beaulieu secured the final point for Wayne State with a two-set win over Sarah Roy.
Matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles were left unfinished as Wayne State had already clinched the overall victory.
The Warriors will compete next in Altamonte Springs, Florida, on May 20th against an opponent yet to be determined.
