Wayne State University redshirt senior Thailyia Christensen has been named the GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career. This recognition follows her performance at the Long Beach State Beach Invite, where she achieved an NCAA Division 2 provisional time in the steeplechase. She improved her personal record by 2.31 seconds, finishing with a time of 10:37.86, which currently ranks 14th nationally according to TFRRS.
The day after this achievement, Christensen competed at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Invitational, running a 4:36.00 for 1500 meters in the Open B section. This performance is recorded as the second-fastest time in Wayne State's history, just behind Brittany Johnson's school record set during the 2014 NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
Christensen's accolades include winning the steeplechase at the 2023 GLIAC Outdoor Championships and being named Second Team All-GLIAC in Cross Country twice, in both 2022 and 2023.
The Wayne State women's outdoor track and field team is scheduled to compete this Friday and Saturday at the Oakland University Elaine Leigh Invitational.
