For the sixth consecutive time, Wayne State University's women's golf team has been selected to participate in the NCAA East Regional. The event will take place from May 6-8 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, as announced by the NCAA on Monday. The Warriors enter the postseason as the fifth seed in their region after being ranked fourth recently.
Participants will compete over 54 holes. The top teams and individuals from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships. Specifically, three teams from the central region, five from both the south and west regions, and five from the east region, along with two top individuals not on advancing teams, will qualify for the finals. Rollins College and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission will host these finals at Orange County National Golf Center in Orlando, Florida from May 21-25. A total of 98 participants will qualify for this stage.
During the finals, all teams and individuals will complete another set of 54 holes of stroke play. An individual champion and runners-up through tenth place will be determined based on scores and tiebreakers if necessary. Additionally, the top eight teams after these rounds will enter a bracket competition based on their scores to compete head-to-head in medal play.
Wayne State's past performances include finishing 12th in 2018, ninth in 2019, sixth in 2021, eighth in 2022, and fourth last year in 2023 when they advanced to play at the NCAA Championships for the first time ever. This academic year marks Wayne State's tenth year sponsoring women's golf.
