The Wayne State University women's golf team is preparing for its penultimate tournament of the 2023-24 regular season. The Warriors will participate in Bowling Green's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. The event features a 13-team field that will compete over 36 holes across two days.
"We are really looking forward to playing this weekend in the BGSU event," stated head coach Larry Hamilton. "It's a great field made up of a lot of mid-major teams, and the fact that it's so close to home allows some of our supporters to come out and see us play. It's a perfect tuneup for us as we prepare for the GLIAC Championships in a couple weeks."
The lineup for Wayne State includes Beca Vestman from Madrid, Spain; Maisarah Hezri from Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia; Inja Fric from Ljubljana, Slovenia; Sabel Imesch from Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; and Clarita Laffitte from Montevideo, Uruguay. Orianna Bylsma from Montague, Michigan, and Logan Potts from Norton Shores, Michigan will compete as individuals.
Competing teams include Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Harvard, Loyola, Niagara, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Pennsylvania (Penn), Toledo, Wayne State itself and Western Michigan.
In recent NCAA regional rankings released on Saturday, Wayne State was ranked fourth in the East Region. On Monday April 29th regional advisory committees will recommend selections to the Division II Women's Golf Committee. Four regional tournaments will be held to determine participants for the championship finals. The East Regional is set for May 6-8 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel Indiana with championships taking place May 21-25 at Orange County National in Winter Garden Florida. The announcement of the regional field is expected on Monday April 29 via an NCAA.com release.
