The Wayne State University women's basketball team faced a challenging game against Michigan Tech, resulting in a 95-75 loss on Thursday evening at the Wayne State Fieldhouse. This match marked the beginning of the final regular season home stand for the 2023-24 season.

In the first quarter, both teams were competitive, scoring a combined total of 52 points. Wayne State initially led with contributions from sophomore forwards Gabi Lutchka and Taylor Thompson but ended the period tied at 26-26 after Michigan Tech's Alex Rondorf scored a three-pointer.

The second quarter saw Michigan Tech gain momentum with a strong start, outscoring Wayne State 27-13. The Huskies maintained an efficient shooting performance, achieving an 84 percent field goal percentage in the first half and leading by 14 points at halftime.

Michigan Tech continued their dominant shooting in the third quarter, extending their lead to 22 points. Emma Anderson played a significant role by scoring three three-pointers during this period. Despite Wayne State's efforts in the fourth quarter to close the gap, they could not overcome Michigan Tech's advantage.

Overall, Michigan Tech displayed impressive shooting accuracy throughout the game, making 73 percent of their shots compared to Wayne State's 42 percent. They also excelled beyond the arc with a 71 percent success rate on three-point attempts.

For Wayne State, Thompson led all scorers with a career-high of 23 points and eight rebounds. Shea Tripp added 19 points, while Alyssa Leister contributed with 13 points. Gabi Lutchka also reached double figures with 11 points.

Emma Anderson was pivotal for Michigan Tech with her team-leading score of 22 points. Other key contributors included Tessa Leece and Alex Rondorf with double-digit scores as well.

Wayne State will next face Northern Michigan on Saturday for Senior Day at Wayne State Fieldhouse, where senior players Kate McArthur and Becca Fugate will be honored before their matchup against the Wildcats.
