Wayne State University will begin its postseason journey in the GLIAC Tournament with a quarterfinal match against Northern Michigan University. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m. inside the Berry Events Center.
The Wayne State Warriors concluded their regular season with a record of 16-11 and a conference record of 9-9. This marks the seventh consecutive year that head coach Carrie Lohr's team has qualified for the league tournament. "WSU is 3-3 in opening round games, including a 2020 triumph at Ferris State in which the program was also seeded sixth," according to the press release.
Northern Michigan holds an overall series lead of 37-27 over Wayne State. In their two regular-season encounters this year, Northern Michigan emerged victorious both times, winning 81-66 on December 9 and 80-74 on February 24.
"Northern Michigan enters the GLIAC Tournament with a 19-8 overall record and a 13-5 mark in the conference," as stated in the release. The Wildcats are led by senior guard Makaylee Kuhn, who finished as the top scorer in the GLIAC during the regular season.
In their last outing, Wayne State faced Saginaw Valley State but fell short with a final score of 77-72. Despite starting strong, WSU could not maintain its halftime lead.
