The Wayne State University women's basketball team concluded its season with a close defeat in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals. The sixth-seeded Warriors, holding a 16-12 overall record, faced off against third-seeded Northern Michigan University on Wednesday night in Marquette, Michigan. Despite leading by eight points in the third quarter, Wayne State ultimately fell 51-48 to Northern Michigan, who improved to a 20-8 overall record.

In the first quarter, both teams struggled offensively. It took more than three minutes for Northern Michigan to score first with a layup at the 6:53 mark. McKenna Ferguson put Wayne State on the board with two free throws after Northern's initial lead of 4-0. By the end of the first quarter, Northern led 9-5 as Wayne State hit just one of their fourteen field goal attempts.

Wayne State bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Northern Michigan 18-14. Shea Tripp contributed significantly with eight points while Gabi Lutchka added five. By halftime, both teams were tied at 23.

The third quarter saw Wayne State momentarily pulling ahead with a ten-to-two run that gave them an eight-point advantage at one stage (37-29). However, Northern responded by reducing their deficit to just two points by the end of the period (39-37).

As tension mounted in the fourth quarter, Lutchka extended Wayne State's lead to five early on but NMU quickly closed this gap and tied it up again before eventually taking control late in the game. With less than four minutes left and Tripp benched due to fouls; NMU scored four consecutive points tying once more at 46-all then seizing their first lead since early third period soon after.
