Wayne State men's tennis ranks No.15 nationally after reaching quarterfinals

In the latest ITA Rankings for NCAA Division 2, Wayne State University's men's tennis team secured a third-place finish in the Midwest Region and ranked 15th nationally. This achievement comes despite the team's advancement to the national quarterfinals for the third year in a row.

The doubles team of senior Daniel Grey from Wiesbaden, Germany, and junior Cedric Drenth from Sulzbach, Germany, finished as the top-ranked NCAA Division 2 men's doubles pair, earning them All-America honors. The second doubles team comprising graduate students Luke Laws from Sunderland, England, and Dom Spicer from London, England, were ranked 25th nationally and fifth in the Midwest Region.

In singles rankings, Daniel Grey was placed third in the Midwest Region and fourth nationally. Cedric Drenth was sixth in the Midwest Region and 15th nationally. Both players received All-America accolades for their singles performances. Additionally, Dom Spicer achieved a No. 14 ranking in the final Midwest Region singles standings.

The Warriors faced one of the toughest schedules this season with 12 matches against top-25 teams and nine against Top-10 teams. They also played seven matches against teams receiving votes.

Wayne State concluded their 2023-24 season with an overall record of 17-11. Their achievements included a 5-1 record in GLIAC regular-season play, winning the Midwest Region title, and securing a victory at the NCAA Finals round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals for three consecutive seasons.
