Wayne State men’s tennis ends regular season against Purdue Northwest & Davenport

Wayne State University's men's tennis team, ranked No. 25, is set to conclude its regular season with matches against Purdue Northwest and Davenport. The Warriors will face Purdue Northwest in Griffith, Indiana, at the Match Point Tennis Facility on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. Eastern. The following day, they will compete against Davenport at the MVP SportsPlex in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Recently completing a four-match home stand with a record of 3-1, Wayne State secured victories over Lake Superior State (6-1), Michigan Tech (7-0), and Grand Valley State (4-3). However, they experienced a narrow defeat to Ferris State last Sunday with a score of 4-3. This brings their season record to 11-9 and their conference record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to 3-1.

Daniel Grey from Wiesbaden, Germany was named GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the fourth time this year after defeating two nationally-ranked opponents during singles matches against Grand Valley State University and Ferris State University.

In terms of league standings, Wayne State's recent loss to Ferris State has given the Bulldogs an advantage in the race for the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship. However, with FSU standing at 4-0 in conference play and WSU at 3-1, Wayne State still has a chance to claim the title if they win their remaining matches and Ferris State loses one of theirs.

The NCAA recently released its first edition of Regional Rankings for the Midwest Region on April 17. Ten programs were listed alphabetically without specific rankings. Wayne State was among these teams along with Drury University, Ferris State University, Findlay University, Grand Valley State University, Hillsdale College, Lake Superior State University, McKendree University, Tiffin University, and Indianapolis University.

According to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings published on April 17th, Wayne State is ranked as No. 25 nationally by computerized rankings—three positions lower than last week’s ranking but still leading within its conference ahead of Ferris State (26th) and Grand Valley State (42nd).

Individually noted are Daniel Grey who moved up five spots from eighth place into third position within singles—the highest ranking achieved by him this season—and Cedric Drenth who appeared tenth marking his first top-ten placement this year. Together Drenth and Grey hold second place in doubles while Luke Laws alongside Dom Spicer moved down from eleventh place into twenty-first position.

Wayne States' next match is scheduled against Purdue Northwest whose current season stands at twelve wins versus seven losses including six wins out ten home games played thus far; however they haven’t hosted any since March when defeated zero-seven by Ferris state . Historically speaking ,WSU remains undefeated across five previous encounters since PNW joined GLIAC back during2017/18 session winning last year’s meeting via seven-zero shutout victory .
