The Wayne State University men's golf team is currently in fourth place after the first round of the 2024 GLIAC Championships, held in Augusta, Michigan. The team recorded a score of 300 (+16), trailing Parkside by three strokes for third place.

Josh DiCarlo led Wayne State with a two-over-par 73, placing him in a tie for ninth individually. Other notable performances included Mat Hawryluk and Max Leppelmeier, both tied for 19th with scores of 75 (+4). Ian Smith and Adam Burghardt rounded out the team's efforts with scores of 77 (+6) and 78 (+7), respectively.

Head coach Mike Horn commented on the day's performance: "We struggled mightily on the back nine today. Our goal is to get into the final four for match play and we are technically there, but have to get it together tomorrow. We have recently been struggling in the poor weather and need to snap out of it quickly. We are going to concentrate on our short game tonight in practice and we will pull it together tomorrow! Today won't even matter after we play well tomorrow."

In terms of team standings, Grand Valley State leads with a score of 282 (-2), followed by Ferris State at 290 (+6) and Parkside at 297 (+13). Saginaw Valley State is just behind Wayne State with a score of 301 (+17).

The competition continues as teams aim to secure their positions for match play.
