The Wayne State University men's tennis team, ranked 22nd nationally, achieved a decisive victory against Michigan Tech on Saturday. The match, held at the Duchene Athletic Facility in Detroit, ended with a score of 7-0 in favor of Wayne State. This win marks their fourth consecutive home victory and second straight league win.
In doubles play, Wayne State swept all matches. The third-ranked duo of Cedric Drenth and Daniel Grey defeated Leon Sell and Jack Lin with a score of 6-1 at the No. 1 position. Luke Laws and Dom Spicer won 6-2 against Eli Pinnoo and Landon Coates in the second flight. Denali Kitayama and Benjamin Hill also secured a 6-2 victory over Vitor Jordao and Nikolai Prosjanykov at the No. 3 spot.
The singles matches were equally successful for Wayne State, as they claimed victories across all six contests. Benjamin Hill was first to finish, winning his match at the fourth flight with scores of 6-3 and 6-1 against Adam Fenjiro. Nationally ranked players Daniel Grey and Cedric Drenth also contributed to the sweep; Grey defeated Lin at No. 1 by scores of 6-1 and 6-2, while Drenth won against Jordao with sets of 6-2 and 6-4.
Dom Spicer emerged victorious over Sell at the No. 3 position with set wins of 6-4 and 6-3. Emil Mikkelsen claimed a win at the fifth flight with scores of 6-4, 6-0 against Pinnoo. Joe Steele concluded the day by winning his match at No. 6 after a tie-breaking first set against Coates, finishing with scores of 7-6 (7-4) and then securing a final set victory of 6-2.
Looking ahead, Wayne State is set to face Grand Valley State on April 12 as part of their four-match home stand within the GLIAC conference.
