Wayne State men's basketball loses close game against Ferris

The Wayne State University men's basketball team faced a setback against Ferris State on Saturday, with a final score of 77-69. Despite leading at halftime, the Warriors were outscored in the second half, resulting in their defeat.

In the first half, Ferris State held a lead three times by seven points but Wayne State managed to fight back. Jordan Briggs from Muskegon initiated and concluded a crucial run that put Wayne State ahead 31-30. Matt Coffey from Detroit contributed significantly with consecutive baskets to regain the lead for the Warriors before heading into halftime with a narrow 37-36 advantage.

Wayne State extended its lead to seven points early in the second half. However, Ferris State countered with an 18-4 run over eight minutes, shifting momentum in their favor and securing a seven-point lead. The Warriors struggled to close the gap beyond six points as Ferris State's advantage grew up to 15 points before ending with an eight-point victory.

Ferris State had a shooting percentage of 42.4% compared to Wayne State's 44.2%. The Bulldogs excelled at free throws, converting 88.5% of their attempts while Wayne State made only 68%. Both teams found challenges behind the arc; Wayne State shot 30% and Ferris State managed just over 21%. Notably, Ferris' bench scored more than double compared to Wayne's bench contribution.

Rob Lee Jr., hailing from Flint, led Wayne's scoring efforts with 16 points alongside three rebounds and assists each. Ray Williams Jr. added another 11 points and Tamario Adley scored ten for the Warriors. Colin Golson Jr., also from Detroit, was notable defensively along with Coffey who each recorded blocks.

For Ferris State, Ethan Erickson topped all scorers with his impressive performance totaling 26 points while Ben Davidson added another significant contribution of 18 points.

Looking ahead, Wayne State returns home for their last two games of this season starting Thursday night against Michigan Tech at the Fieldhouse scheduled for a tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
