Wayne State falls short in GLIAC semifinals against Ferris State

The Wayne State University men's basketball team concluded its 2023-24 season with a loss in the GLIAC Semifinals against Ferris State University. The Warriors, who ended their season with a 14-15 record, were unable to maintain their nine-point halftime lead, ultimately falling 91-81 to the Bulldogs.

In the first half, Wayne State responded to an early deficit by scoring eight consecutive points. Contributions came from Carmelo Harris, Colin Golson Jr., and Kaimen Lennox. Despite this effort, Ferris State managed to tie the game at 15-15 and later took a slight lead. However, Wayne State surged ahead with a 12-4 run, led by Tamario Adley and Rob Lee Jr., ending the half with a 45-36 advantage.

The second half saw Ferris State initiate a strong comeback with a 14-0 run that shifted the momentum in their favor. Although Wayne State briefly regained the lead at 54-52, Ferris State maintained control for most of the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs outscored Wayne State in crucial moments, securing their victory.

Wayne State's shooting was efficient at 51 percent from the floor and they excelled at free throws with a 74 percent success rate. However, Ferris State capitalized on turnovers and had an edge in rebounding which contributed significantly to their win.

Rob Lee Jr. led Wayne State's scorers with 17 points while Tamario Adley added ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Carmelo Harris also contributed twelve points.

Vejas Grazulis spearheaded Ferris State's efforts with a game-high of 26 points on effective shooting. Ethan Erickson added fourteen points while Dolapo Olanyinka recorded eight rebounds alongside his twelve points.

Looking ahead, Wayne State will lose senior Kaimen Lennox to graduation but can build on winning six of their last nine games this season.
