After a challenging start, Wayne State University's baseball team made a remarkable comeback in the second game of their doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday. Despite losing the first game 5-1, the Warriors managed to turn around a 7-0 deficit to secure a 14-9 victory in the nightcap.
In the initial game, Saginaw Valley State scored steadily across several innings while limiting Wayne State to just one run from two hits. Griffin Kilander was on the mound for Wayne State and recorded five earned runs on 12 hits.
The second game initially followed a similar pattern, with Saginaw Valley leading 7-0 after four innings. However, Wayne State's offense came alive, scoring consistently from the fifth inning onwards. A pivotal moment occurred when Kyle Ray hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, bringing his team ahead 10-8. Ray's performance was notable as he went 4-for-5 with three runs and five RBIs.
Wayne State also saw significant contributions from Mason McGuire, CJ Maury, and Brady Blakita who all had multi-hit games. On the pitching side, Macio Miller secured his first win of the season by allowing only one earned run over three innings. Gabe Nazelli completed the final two innings for his first career save.
Wayne State and Saginaw Valley will play again on Sunday to conclude their four-game series.
