Wayne State University's baseball team is preparing for its last non-conference game of the 2024 season against Northwood University. The match is scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m., with Wayne State holding a record of 23-12 and Northwood at 19-16. Their previous encounter this season was on March 9 in Davenport, Florida, where Northwood secured a narrow victory of 9-8.

The history between the two teams shows that Wayne State has struggled recently, losing three consecutive games to Northwood and six out of their last eight meetings. Neither team has dominated since 2017, as neither had won more than two consecutive games against each other until now. This season, Northwood's performance includes a record of 6-9 in non-conference matches and an impressive 7-2 when playing at home. Conversely, Wayne State boasts an 11-6 record in non-conference play and an 8-5 mark on the road.

In their last meeting, Wayne State initially took the lead with early runs but eventually fell behind as Northwood rallied with multiple runs in later innings to secure the win.

Wayne State's current lineup features several players performing well at bat, including Bennett Hitzelberger and Kyle Ray who are among the top hitters in their league. On the pitching side, Ashton Potts leads with an ERA ranking second in the league.

Northwood's team displays strength through notable batting averages and power hitting from players like Matt Magno and Blake Salamon. The Timberwolves have shown capability in both offense and defense throughout this season.
