The Wayne State University men's basketball team secured a victory against Northern Michigan University on Senior Day. The match, held in Detroit, concluded with a score of 84-80 in favor of Wayne State, marking their second consecutive win and a strong home record of 10-4 for the season.
In the first half, both teams displayed competitive spirit with multiple ties and lead changes. After reaching an 18-18 tie, Wayne State went on a seven-point run, thanks to contributions from Tamario Adley and Kareem Aburashed. The Warriors extended their lead to as much as ten points on several occasions. Despite Northern Michigan's efforts to close the gap, Wayne State maintained an eight-point advantage at halftime.
The second half saw Wayne State maintaining control despite Northern Michigan's attempts to narrow the deficit. An 11-3 run by Wayne State increased their lead to 14 points twice during this period. Although Northern Michigan outscored Wayne State in the final minutes, successful free throw shooting by the Warriors helped secure their victory.
Wayne State demonstrated superior rebounding skills with a 36-29 edge over Northern Michigan and achieved a higher shooting percentage at 55.8 percent compared to their opponent's 45.3 percent. Notably, Colin Golson Jr. delivered an impressive performance with a career-high of 27 points and matched his personal best of 13 rebounds.
Northern Michigan had four players scoring in double figures, led by Carson Smith with 22 points. Sam Schultz contributed nine rebounds for his team.
Looking ahead, Wayne State will face Saginaw Valley State in their regular season finale on March 2nd. The outcome will determine which team advances to the GLIAC Tournament.
