The Wayne State University football team recently held its 2023 awards banquet at the Motor City Casino Banquet Hall. Head coach Tyrone Wheatley announced several individual honors for his first season with the Warriors.

Redshirt junior offensive lineman Charles Wesley was named the 2023 Offensive Most Valuable Player. Wesley participated in all 11 games, starting eight times in various positions on the line. His consistent performance earned him Honorable Mention All-GLIAC selection and marked him as the third O-lineman to receive this MVP honor in recent years.

Graduate student Drake Reid was recognized as WSU's Defensive Most Valuable Player after being voted to the All-GLIAC Second Team. Reid played in every game, starting nine of them, and finished third on the team in tackles. He also received Academic All-District honors and was a national semifinalist for the William Campbell Trophy.

Griffin Milovanski, a redshirt junior place-kicker, earned Special Teams Most Valuable Player recognition for a second consecutive year. Milovanski set a school record with eight field goals over 40 yards and tied-for-second nationally with 16 made field goals during the regular season.

The Ron Solack Memorial "35" Award went to redshirt sophomore tight end John Rayba, who also received Academic All-District honors while maintaining high academic standards throughout his college career.

Redshirt junior Donte Reed was presented with the Randy Guzowski Award for demonstrating leadership and exemplary citizenship both on campus and within the community. Reed has actively participated in various volunteer activities while maintaining strong academic achievements.

Ke'Waun Farnum received WSU's Offensive Rookie of the Year award after appearing in five games and achieving significant all-purpose yardage. The Defensive Rookie of the Year accolade went to true freshman cornerback Anthony Walk Jr., who contributed significantly during his debut season.

Senior Maxx Fisher won the Scholar-Athlete Award due to his outstanding academic performance alongside athletic contributions such as serving as holder for PAT/FG units throughout all contests.

Drake Reid was honored again with both Serxho Guraleci/Ultimate Warrior award for his efforts in strength training and Courtney "Cortez" Smith Award recognizing overall contributions to team vitality on multiple fronts including academics where he maintains an impressive GPA within MBA studies at Wayne State University School Of Business Administration Program
