Wayne State University's baseball team, holding a 23-13 record, faced Northwood University in a closely contested game. Despite leading 3-2 through six innings, Wayne State fell to Northwood, who scored two runs in the seventh inning and another in the eighth, resulting in a 5-3 victory for the Timberwolves. The Warriors are set to return to GLIAC play with a four-game series against Grand Valley State at Harwell Field.
The game began with Wayne State taking an early lead when Logan Van Sicklen singled to shortstop, allowing CJ Maury to score from third base. Northwood quickly responded by scoring one run each in the first and second innings, taking a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, Maury contributed again by singling to third base and bringing Drew Hill home. The Warriors regained their lead in the fifth inning when Nate Crossman hit a single to center field, driving in Van Sicklen for a 3-2 advantage.
However, Wayne State's defense faltered in the seventh inning with back-to-back errors that allowed Northwood to score two unearned runs. The Timberwolves added an insurance run in the eighth following a wild pitch.
Evan Langlois pitched six innings for Wayne State, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out two batters. Keegan Pulford-Thorpe took over from Langlois but was charged with the loss after allowing two unearned runs on two hits during his inning of work.
Gavin Nash, Gabe Nazelli, and Cam Rosen also appeared as relief pitchers for Wayne State. Nash pitched for two-thirds of an inning; Nazelli did not retire any batters; Rosen retired the only batter he faced.
